Oh my God! I think I have Keratosis pilaris rubra faceii -- finally an answer!?

Hi!!! Today I went to the doctors for a sinus infection, and it just so happens that my regular doctor was out, so I had to see a new one. While she was listening to my lungs, she saw that I had keratosis pilaris on my arms (and a pretty severe case too), and gave me some stuff for it. (I also have it on my legs and hips.) I have been to a million doctors before (even derms) for unrelated things, and no one ever mentioned it, so I just kind of ignored it (my mother has it too). WELL, for the past few months, I've been getting (what I thought were) pimples on my cheeks -- only my cheeks, never anywhere else. I've never had acne, and I'm past the "acne-age" too. Anyway, when I started getting these "pimples" (they really just looked like flesh colored bumps, never red or a white head or anything like that), I tried to pop them, and what happened was a tiny clear ball popped out, never any puss, and that was the end of it. I popped like 5 of these per week. BUT, since I've been..

Oh my God! I think I have Keratosis pilaris rubra faceii -- finally an answer!?
Lac hydrin 12% lotion is a common treatment for this problem, there is also a new cream out called Umecta 40 and we are seeing excellent results with it for K.P.

its from mild (peri)follicular plugging,

and excess keratin on the skin.

sounds about right...

dont wash the area with hot water.

diet does make a difference...

avoid spicy food, or fried or oily food.

supplement with vitamin A, or beta carotene.

some available therapeutic options include emollients (non-oily), lactic acid, Retin A cream, alpha-hydroxy acid lotions, urea cream, salicylic acid, etc.

faceii just means face

rubra just means red

pilaris means bumps

keratosis is a disease of the keratin
