What do I do about keratosis pelaris? (it's like having goosebumps on my arms constantly)?

Ok... I have keratosis pelaris. That means I have little bumps on my arms constantly. I'm 13 and some people call it "arm acne" and make fun of me. What can I use without having to spend a TON of money? Please help!

There really is no cure. I've suffered through KP all through my teen years, and it's been fading since I've hit my twenties, so don't give up hope.

One home remedy I've used is an asprin mask. Crush 10-12 uncoated asprin pills, and mix them with enough water to make it like a paste. Coat it over the affected areas and let sit for ten minutes, or until it dries. Rub it in circles to exfoliate, and then rinse it off. It does not make the bumps go away, but your skin is much smoother afterwards. Just be sure to moisturize your skin, since the asprin will dry out your skin. And obviously, don't use this if your skin is really sensitive to beta hydroxy acids or if you are allergic to asprin,

As for the bumps and redness, tanning reduces the appearance of them significantly. Some people have also said they have had success with ProActiv. If you go to a dermatologist, they can prescribe you a steriod cream. Some people have also said that less meat in your diet will help, but I've never noticed any difference in the KP from changing my diet.
Reply:i have that too. Report It

Reply:The tanning is the only thing that worked for me, but I'm reading more and more articles lately about the skin cancer epidemic, and I want to stop, but if I do, that just means more bumps. I try to remember my retin-a at night, and alpha hydroxy or glycolic during the day. Scrub at least 3 times a week with a super scrubby scrub..... and try not to pick (:

I've also heard that taking vitamin a suppliments or MSM can help. However, an over consumption of vitamin a can be bad too.
Reply:There is a lotion called Amlactin. Its in a 16 oz. white bottle. About $16. You can get it any big store like Costco or Fred Meyer have them where you live. Ask a pharmacist, they most likely have it . I feel your pain. I suffered with Keratosis Pilaris for years until I discovered this lotion from a derm. Mine went away after a few applies. Hope that helps! :)
